Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 9, 2025
Grandma’s Lye Soap (the “Sponsor,” “we,” or “us”) operates the Name Me Bar website and contest (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you browse the site, make a purchase, or enter the $1,000 naming contest, how we use and share that information, and the choices you have. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.
1) Information We Collect
- Purchase information: name, email, billing and shipping address, payment method details (processed by our payment processor), items purchased, order number, and receipt data.
- Contest entry information: first and last name, email, phone (if provided), your name idea and rationale, state/province, order number or AMOE postcard details, and any file you upload as proof of purchase.
- Communications: messages you send us (e.g., support emails), and responses to surveys or promotions.
- Device and usage data: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and interactions (via cookies or similar technologies). See Cookies & Tracking below.
2) How We Use Information
- To process and fulfill purchases, including shipping, returns, and receipts.
- To administer the naming contest: validate eligibility and purchases, judge entries, contact the potential winner, and deliver the prize.
- To provide and improve the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and maintain security.
- To send transactional emails (order confirmations, contest confirmations, important updates). You may opt in to marketing emails separately.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and Official Rules.
3) Legal Bases (where applicable)
We generally process personal information to perform a contract (your purchase or contest entry), based on our legitimate interests (site security, fraud prevention, improving the Service), or with your consent (e.g., optional marketing emails).
4) How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers / processors who help us operate the Service (e.g., payment processing, form handling, shipping, email delivery, website hosting). Examples may include a payment processor such as Stripe or Shopify Payments, a form service such as Formspree/Getform, and shipping carriers.
- Affiliates within our family of brands (if any) that help fulfill orders or administer the contest.
- Legal and compliance when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
5) Retention
We keep purchase records as required for accounting, tax, and warranty purposes (generally 3–7 years depending on jurisdiction). Contest entries are retained through winner verification and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal requirements and to prevent duplicate submissions. We keep server logs and analytics data for a limited period necessary to secure and improve the Service.
6) Your Choices & Rights
- Access, update, or delete: You can request a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or delete it where applicable.
- Marketing emails: You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the message. Transactional emails will still be sent.
- Cookies: See Cookies & Tracking for how to manage cookies in your browser.
7) Cookies & Tracking
We may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site (e.g., keeping items in cart), understand usage, and improve performance. You can usually set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being used. If you disable cookies, some features may not work.
- Essential cookies: required for core site features (e.g., checkout, form submissions).
- Performance/analytics: help us understand visits and page interactions in aggregate.
- Functional: remember choices like your state or newsletter preference.
Do Not Track: Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. We currently do not respond to DNT signals.
8) Children’s Privacy
The Service is intended for adults 18+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
9) Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information we collect. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; use the Service at your own risk.
10) State Privacy Disclosures (U.S.)
For residents of certain U.S. states (e.g., California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or limit certain processing. We do not sell or share personal information for cross‑context behavioral advertising. To exercise rights, see Contact Us below.
11) International Visitors
Our contest is limited to the U.S./D.C., and our store primarily serves U.S. customers. If you visit from outside the U.S., you consent to processing and storage in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
12) AMOE (Mail‑In) Entries
Alternate Method of Entry (AMOE) postcards are used solely to administer the contest. We may store the postcard and a digital copy for verification and legal recordkeeping.
13) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” above. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
